This season\, don’t let a day of adventure turn into a crisis.\nAlaska Safe Riders is hosting a critical Backcountry Safety Presentation with a special emphasis on Ice Travel Safety. This free\, life-saving event is designed for every riders\, from novice to expert.\nWe’ll move beyond the basics and dive deep into the practical knowledge that keeps you safe. You will learn:\nHow to “Read the Ice:” Identify visual clues that signal weak or dangerous ice\, from pressure ridges to high hazard areas.\nThe Gear That Gets You Out: We’ll demonstrate the essential\, non-negotiable safety gear for ice travel\, including ice picks\, throw ropes\, and flotation coats\, and show you exactly how they can save you.\nThe Step-by-Step Survival Plan: What do you do in the first 60 seconds after falling through the ice? We’ll walk through the proven\, life-saving techniques for self-rescue and buddy-rescue.\nBuilding a Safety Mindset: Learn how to plan your route\, travel in a group effectively\, and make smart decisions to avoid hazards altogether.\nDon’t just hope you’re safe—know you’re prepared. DESCRIPTION:100% proceeds from the event support the good work of Susitna River Coalition \nThis community event celebrates the local and wild foods of the Susitna Watershed and the communities that rely on and enjoy them. After the hard work of growing\, harvesting\, and gathering food\, nothing is more rewarding than sharing the bounty with our neighbors. \nFor this 8th annual event\, the Susitna River Coalition is holding a community potluck and cooking competition with foods that grew\, flew\, walked\, or swam in the Susitna Watershed. Some past delicious entries have included caribou frankfurters\, blueberry bear\, and Kahiltna birch syrup ice cream. \n8th annual Wild Su Feast\nWhen: Sunday\, October 5th\, 5pm-8pm\nWhere: Denali Brewing Company\, 37083 Talkeetna Spur Rd. (Mile 2) \nHow it Works:\nOption One\, Chef Entries: Contestants bringing their dish!\nAdult Chef Entry Fee: $15\nYouth Chef Entry Fee: $5 (12 and younger.) An adult can help but this dish should largely prepared by the entrant.\nOne adult and one youth chef entry allowed per online checkout. \nRules for Dish Entries\nIngredients must include something that Walked\, Swam\, Flew or Grew in the Susitna Watershed that you harvested\, gathered or prepared. \nEmail your recipe to info@susitnarivercoalition.org for inclusion in our competition and semi-annual cookbook. \nBring a dish that will serve at least six (6) people.\nEntrees preferred- sauces must supplement a main.\nHere are some examples:\nWalked: Fiddlehead/Morel/Moose pizza and Porcupine Sausage Gumbo\nSwam: Grilled Salmon with a Lingonberry sauce and Salmon Quiche\nFlew: Ptarmigan appetizers and Turkey Pot Pie\nGrew: Blueberry Birch Ice Cream and Black Currant Muffins\nWe will be creating a 2024 Wild Su Feast cookbook out of the dishes! Please bring the recipe or the ingredients list for your entry.\n*We can not accept any home-made alcoholic drinks this year* \nOption Two\, Event Attendees: Pay admission in advance and vote on locally prepared foods! Online ticket sales will end at 5pm on October 12th. This year’s event takes place on Sunday\, August 10th\, as part of a full weekend of salmon-centered events\, including films\, food\, and more. \nWhat to Expect:\nWe’ll focus our efforts on cleaning up the Talkeetna Riverfront and stretches of the Chase Trail\, with tools and safety gear provided by the National Park Service. Whether you’re a seasoned trail builder or just want to lend a hand\, this is a fun and meaningful way to connect with the land and the community. \nMeet-Up Location:\nIn front of the Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station\n2241 S.
