Talkeetna is an ideal year round destination
for small tour groups, convention delegates, medical or aviation
professionals on tour, and military families.
Talkeetna is located about two hours
north of Anchorage by a year round maintained road (60 air
miles), and halfway between Anchorage and Denali National
Park on the Alaska Railroad or by road. The stunning beauty
of the Alaska Range, our reputation as a renown climbing base
for international climbers making their way to climb Denali
(Mt. McKinley), the opportunity to fish in world class salmon
habitat, and the variety of year round outdoor and cultural
activities all contribute to
the quality of a stay in our community.
Talkeetna can easily accommodate
a convention of 200 people. Lodging ranges from modest motels,
deluxe hotels, to large cabins that can sleep 6 comfortably.
There are almost 300 beds available. Gatherings and meeting
places can be held at local lodges as well as the recently
renovated Don Sheldon Hangar. Talkeetna offers a wide variety
of dining experiences, from a quick hot dog to a gourmet meal
with linen napkins. Restaurants
are open year round, offering specials and extended hours
on the weekends. Convention attendees will have a choice of
activities, depending on the
time of year. Talkeetna is truly a destination for all seasons.
There are several flight
seeing services, fishing
charters, rafting
companies, gift
shops, galleries,
museums,
pubs.
Furthermore Talkeetna has food stores, a library, an ice rink/tennis
court, an orchestra, the Bachelor Society, radio
stations, two air fields (one federal, one historic and
still in use), travel
reservation agencies, a newspaper,
churches,
and a variety of other small businesses that provide services
to locals and visitors alike. But more than anything,
Talkeetna exhibits small frontier town charm with a uniqueness
that sets it apart from any other Alaska community... with
a view to match!
